WHERE DO I START?
Websites, databases and books all offer different perspectives and resources. Use all three to get the best information. Books contain more detailed, in-depth information, and are available in the library. Databases offer access to magazines, journals and newspapers NOT available on the web. Results can be sorted and searched by date, subject, and reading level. Websites are usually available to all and free, but the quality can vary substantially. BOOKS and DATABASES
Make sure you check the Advanced Sources tab
in ISearch for research starters.
Advanced Search Techniques
These work in the library catalog, ISearch and Google. Use " " around a phrase to search for the exact phrase. ("social media addiction" forces the search to find results where those words occur next to each other rather than anywhere on the page) Use +/- to include/exclude words from your search. Searching for depression -great will eliminate results that are about the Great Depression in US history. WEBSITES
Make sure you are using a trusted source. Click here for a website evaluation checklist. This will also help you create a citation for any websites you use. Prescription Painkiller Abuse CVS Health TurntheTideRx.org |
